the farewell circuit:
"THE INEXORABLE MARCH OF TIME"

This is the kind of song that makes one awfully happy to be sad. Reminiscent of the moods and soundscapes created by their fellow statesmen, Low, The Farewell Circuit stitch together a tune with instruments that sound like they've weathered the Minnesota cold many times, and now provide the existential kindling and fire we need to make it through the winter. Danny O'Brien's voice has the sentiment and fragility of Ben Gibbard, but the oh-so-carefully constructed arrangement, which sounds as if the entire thing might immediately collapse if one sliver slips or falls askance, is filled with a yearning that even boyish hipsters Death Cab For Cutie can't contend with it.

For the record, I should point out that this track is an alternate version of an original filled with clockwork beats, a cello, and a four-on-the-floor bass drum. Let the fact that this alternate version is here for your perusal and not the other say what it may, and let us hope that these gentlemen forgo their more electronic sensibilities more often.
