I'm tempted to break this song into 20 pieces and look at each one for an hour then redraw its shape by memory having determined each piece's connection to "electrify your bones and do plug in / instead of tryin' to be the one.” Let's take a moment to appreciate the risky intrusion of banjo, risky because descending gracefully into an established beat is harder than just starting to play the part. For that matter, Bearkat lets her songs follow their own ways, but without sounding like she's trying to find hers—every move she makes in this track feels essential. And if any moment of a song encapsulates what that song does (or doesn't) do, BK carefully builds the sounds behind every moment, and lets us listen to her do it, which is generous of her.
