Canon Chorus's Jeff Carlson has one of those voices that's inexplicably endearing. It's a nasally croon like Colin Meloy meets Ben Gibbard and it works. I felt like Dorothy walking down the hallway to see the wizard at the beginning of this song, with the distant tribal drums and other-worldly backup vocals. Then Carlson comes in carrying the song into a soul-rattling, sand paper chorus. "No Need for Parachutes" took me up and down and dropped me suddenly off at the last chord leaving me shaking for more and oddly like I needed that parachute after all.
